Fr. Dougal McGuire
Dougal is my dog, and my best friend. His name comes from the character of the same name in the sitcom Father Ted. Rescued from the Chicago City Pound shortly after my qualifying exam in May 2007. He had been picked up as a stray on Valentines day, nearly 3 months before. On my way back from picking Elise up at Midway airport, we stopped by the pound and found him. He had hardly eaten while he was at the pound, and weighed in at about 30 pounds. You could see every rib and vertebrae. Now he wolfs down any food put in front of him, and in typical lab fashion, it's more of a battle to keep him from putting on too much weight.
In August 2009 Dougal got a little sister: Crilly, a Belgian Malinois Shepherd. Her name comes from another character in the same TV show as Dougal. She acts like a hyperactive puppy, but Dougal puts up with her, and her constant playinghas helped him lose some weight and get into better shape. The two of them get along very well and keep each other company while their parents are away at work.
