Note: you REALLY have to check that your system is sane! In most cases, the code fails to compile because of system inconsistencies (e.g. inconsistent gcc, broken g77, X11 or libraries). This is surprisingly common. Known Limitations and Bugs (in documentation) 1. There are some problems with 16-bit X-windows implementations. 2. When used remotely the images may not be greyscale but slightly tinted if the wordordering is different on the host computer and the remote computer. We believe that this is mainly fixed. 3. Cursor movement within fields are not currently implimented 4. There may be problems with locale variables in non-English environments due to the lengths of characters. 5. The phase extension can hang if highly inappropriate phases are used, e.g. all -2000. 6. Origin definition not fully implemented. 7. Semper code for fs98 is old and needs checking. It may not be compatible with all semper implimentations. 8. Help files need expansion, particularly for edm. They may not look wonderful on all systems and all browsers. 9. To compile on a cygwin system, pay attention to what gcc version you have; it works with the gcc 2.95 or 3.3 but not with Redhat's 3.2 version (which appears to have been rather buggy). 10. No man, info or text-based help yet. 11. There might be some problems reading some digital micrograph images. 12. Need to expand the tif reader using libraries - also expand the image output possibilities. 13. Shared libraries may not be right. 14. A chmod a+rX is needed to give everyone rights to use the code
